Abstract

Food presentation is an important component of the contemporary dining experience because consumers evaluate food not only through taste and aroma but also through visual appearance, arrangement, color, portion size, texture, plate design, and overall presentation style. In restaurants, hotels, cafés, and other food-service settings, attractive presentation can influence consumers’ expectations before the first bite and may affect their perceptions of food quality, freshness, value, creativity, and attractiveness. The visual appearance of a meal can create an initial impression that shapes subsequent sensory evaluation and overall satisfaction. This study examines the effects of food presentation on consumer perception and dining experiences, with particular attention to perceived food quality, attractiveness, satisfaction, purchase intentions, and willingness to recommend a dining establishment. The study focuses on how plating techniques, color combinations, portion arrangement, garnishing, plate selection, and visual creativity contribute to consumers’ overall evaluations. A quantitative research approach can be used to collect data from consumers who have experienced restaurant or food-service dining. A structured questionnaire can measure perceptions of food presentation, perceived quality, dining satisfaction, emotional responses, and behavioral intentions. The study proposes that visually appealing food presentation can create positive expectations and contribute to a more memorable dining experience, although excessive decoration or inappropriate presentation may negatively influence perceptions. The findings are expected to demonstrate that food presentation is not merely a decorative aspect of food service but an important element of consumer experience and restaurant marketing. The study may help chefs, restaurant managers, culinary professionals, and hospitality businesses understand the importance of visual presentation in creating satisfying and memorable dining experiences.
